There are several analytical
methods use for the determination of raw fiber (or its components) in food
and feed sectors. Among them, Weende Method and the AOAC method for
determination of total raw fiber, and furthermore Van Soest methods for Ndf
(neutral detergent fiber) and Adf (Acid detergent fiber). Finally the
methods to determine the single components of the fiber (cellulose,
lignin,..).
VELP Scientifica has
developed the extraction unit FIWE 3 with 3 places, a flexible solution able
to satisfy all above mentioned analytical needs.
This instrument is able to optimize the operator’s manuality, to drastically
reduce the analysis time, by assuring absolutely reliable results. FIWE
unit allows to perform the analysis in the operational standardized
conditions requested by the official methods.

The
SER 148/3 unit allows a substance or group of substances to be
quantitatively separated (e.g. fat) from a mixture of solids or semisolids.
Extraction is carried out in accordance with the Randall technique, which
works in two phases (plus one to recover the distilled solvent).
This technique offers protection against atmospheric pollution, and cuts
analysis costs and extraction time.
The instrument, designed to optimize ease of handling, is provided with a
microprocessor allowing up to 29 different work programs to be set. The
operational phases set will be carried out in sequence with the temperature
and remaining time constantly shown on two different displays.
The analyses are performed in absolute safety thanks to its IP55 protection
rating.
The main fields of application include analysis of food products, animal
feeds, detergents, rubber and plastic formulations, pharmaceutical products,
soils, etc. for the content of soluble products such as fats, detergents,
plasticizers and pesticides.

Samples that must be
subjected to calculation of the raw fiber must have less than 1%
fat content. If the fat content is greater than 1%, preliminary extraction
using acetone, hexane or petroleum ether is required.
The COEX instrument was developed to quickly degrease the samples inside the
crucibles that will be used on the FIWE 3 or FIWE 6 for consequent
determination of raw fiber.
COEX is the right solution to
speed up and optimizing the raw fiber analysis preliminary phase.
