POLARIMETER Polaris is a Bench top mechanical and rotating polarimeter used to measure the concentration or purify of products in the food, beverage and surgical industry.an optically active sample or solution ,is placed in a tube between two polarisers of which one can be rotated. By determining through the eye piece the relative intensity of light passing through the solution, measuring the relative angle of the two plarisers,and applying a mathematical formula, the concentraion of the optically active substance in the solution can be found. Polaris has an in built light source : sodium lamp emitting a monochromatic light of 589.3Nand two scales(left or right optically active 0°-180°) with a vernier reading of up to 0.05°.

The Polarimeter consists of two pollarids, one of which as a polarizer and the other as an analyzer. Light is passed from the to the analyzer from a lamp which, if desired can be replaced by a simple reflector provided at the base which can be rotated to make use a day light. If however, the lamp is to be used, the Polarimeter lamp (12V, 5W) connected to a 12 Volts D.C. or A.C. supply using 4 mm sockets is provided for the purpose.
